Oswald Reviews: Disney Spin-offs and Sequels (Planes)

My little cousin got Planes for Christmas and I couldn’t help but watch it. Was it as bad as I brought it up to be? Let’s see.

Story: You know the story of Cars? BAM! It’s the story of Planes. But put it on fast forward. Seriously, they rush all of the scenes in this film. They don’t give time to establish character or give a decent story. It’s mostly explained in exposition.

Animation: The animation is surprisingly good. It isn’t as expressive as Pixar, but it is still nice to look at.

The colors and the atmosphere is very nice to the eyes. It is just…pleasant. Yeah, that’s a good word for it.

Character: Characters? What characters? Oh, you mean these pieces of cardboard? These characters are so bland and so forgetable. They have no decent backstory other than the few things Dusty says about their racing history.

Plus, they’re just carbon copies of the characters from Cars! We got the rookie racer, the funny sidekick with a funny accent, the wise racing coach, the egotisticle jerk who always wants to win, etc. We’ve seen this before.

In conclusion, Planes is bad, but not god-awful. I expected a lot worse, but that doesn’t mean it was good. The sequel on the other hand…we’ll see you next time.

See you later, Animators!

Story: 2
Animation: 5
Characters: 2
—————-
Total: 3

UPDATE: I did the math wrong. I fixed it. Sorry.
